There is a Texas knifemaker, Angelsword, who as I recall started out at 
the renfaires and did pretty good.   Last time i went to one several 
years back they were still there and selling some pretty expensive 
stuff.    I think some high priced items get sold totally on site, but a 
lot of future business gets sold as well.   This is not the typical 
story I gather though.
