Our cat woke us up just when it was starting to get light, about 4:30am. 
Our bedroom is in the second floor; the cat must have climbed the tree, 
gotten onto the porch roof, then leaped for our skylight window (cape 
ceiling). He was inside the skylight (open) lying on the screen asking 
to be let in.

When it became apparent to him that we were useless, he climbed out. We 
could hear his claws scraping all the way as he slid down the metal 
roof. No thud.
