This is a truly classic tune. Bike, too. Not really the kind of thing
you sing along with, but very cool.

I have a boombox set way high up with the grinder dust won't get it too
bad, so I tend not to play anything from my collection. My taste runs
from Pantera through AC/DC, Zeppelin (the bedrock of rock, IMHO), old
Beastie Boys, Soundgarden, the Black Crowes and occaionally Kid Rock to
trance and trip-hop, Bach (the music of the spheres, if you ask me) and
country new and old. Sometimes some of that finds its way if a given
mood or task calls for it. Mostly it's country radio on weekdays--not
to insult the genre or anyone who listens to it, but thanks to
clearchannel's marketing decisions I can sing along mindlessly with the
ten songs on the spinlist as I work. It's a kind of sonic pablum I
don't mind missing a lot of when something loud is running. Weekends
it's NPR for On the Media, This American Life, CarTalk, and Prairie
Home...etc. If I've got time I shut down for ten minutes to listen to
the News from Lake Wobegone. My people.

Comfort radio.

This has been an interesting thread...there is less diversity than I
would have thought: having not done a detailed analysis, it seems like
classic rock is in fat part of the curve, although there are some
interesting divergences. It's heavier than I expected, too, and less
country, bluegrass, and classical than I would have guessed. If had to
call the demo, I would guess at a 35-45 year old, obviously (but
unfortunately) mostly male crowd. I had a sense that we were an older
crowd than that, partly because of the morbidity and mortality
conversations that come up from time to time (maybe we just don't age
well), and partly because some folks' memories seem to reach waaaay
back.

Speculation leading nowhere I suppose, but it's interesting to ponder.
