[TheForge] Putting neu handles on old skillets

I have some old cast iron skillets with the handles broken off with about 1"
of handle left. Since my daughter likes to cook in these things, I thought
of making braded and diamond twist handles, weld a short piece of black iron
pipe and forge it around the original handle stubs. Or does anyone know a
better way to do it? I thought of grinding the old ones off and riveting a Y
shaped attachment, but that seems like a lot of work.
