	Vent your chimney as well as your shop.  I prefer coal, habit more than anything else, I *know* what the fire is doing to the steel, even when I can't see the metal.   Even a 4" muffin fan a few feet up the chimney pipe will vastly reduce smoke blowback & clouding around the fire itself.

	Unseasoned (green) poplar chunks work at least as well as coal without the smoke.  You get clouds of steam instead...<G>
