A couple of years ago, at a conference on Ni sensivity (allergenicity),
reports of studies showed that even 4 parts per million was enough to cause a
reaction to nickel in those predisposed to Ni as an allergen. Even metal eyeglass
frames containing Nickel will cause a severe reaction to those sensitive to
it, it doesn't have to be vaporized or even heated, just some amount of contact
can cause the problem. So, if you are allergic to Ni or become allergic to
it, it would seem not to be a good idea to handle it or alloys containing it.
Forge iron; it's safe, much easier to forge, and very few are allergic to it.
