Consequent to massive chemotherapy in 1980 i won tinnitus in 5 or 6
distinct pitches that was loud enough to mask quiet conversation. Over
time it has diminished to just one or 2 pitches and much less
volume......but i noticed that as each pitch dropped away, so did much
of my hearing in the same register. I've come to think of it as the
individual nerves under a given sensory hair singing their last
protracted note as they die.
Subsequently, I killed off some of their neighboring nerves beating metal.
