Agreed, but I work with nickel super alloy for my heat treating 
fixtures and have gained some experience with it.  It is total 
overkill for a forge grate but it would work fine it is damn 
expensive stuff to buy. I just paid $130 for a few pounds of Inconel 
718 plate but at 1400 F it still has 110 ksi tensile strength as 
compared to 304 stainless 75 ksi at room temp.
