I also have a panasonic which I think is great. It was
lighter in weight than the comparable makita.
The one thing you should consider is the battery technology.
The newer nickle-metal hydride batteries are a better choice
than the nickle-cadmium. They don't have the memory that
requires that they be completely discharged before putting
them back on the charger. The other thing is that they
maintain their voltage much better at the end of their
charge. They also had a higher rated amp-hour capacity than
the Ni-cad batteries listed with other brands.
Last time I checked, both makita and panasonic were offering
Ni-Mh batteries in their cordless tools.
