Andy,

The actions you describe are the same ones that will open your
eustation tubes - the tubes running from the inner ear to the back of
the throat.  One effect of opening the eustation tubes is that your
perception of sound changes.  I suspect that this is irrelevant to
tinnitis.

	I, too have a slight tinnitus condition, but as far as I can
tell, it 
seems to be all related to muscle tension.  I discovered that if I jut

my chin way out (straining the muscles) or open the jaw such that the 
muscles strain, the ringing gets significantly louder, leading me to 
suspect that the condition is tension-related.  Anyone know anything 
about this?

I suppose one day I'll actually get it checked out.  It's not very 
onerous, but it does annoy me in that I can no longer hear my pulse in

my ears... which sucks.
