	If you don't mind spending the money, I would suggest a good pair of 
active filters... shooting muffs.  I had a pair that cost about $130 
(the evil one stole them) and they worked perfectly.  All 
high-attack/high-volume sounds are blocked, but you can hear normal 
conversation as if you were wearing nothing (almost).  Well worth the 
money.  I often use hearing protection, but not always, which is 
probably a mistake.
