Now you've stirred up the hornet's nest durn good!
Let me see if I can condense the last several years of wrangling on this
very subject:
>for it. Anyone know beyond preference?
NOPE!
The entire argument in the past has condensed into just that... Preference.
Whatever works for you is what's best... for YOU!
I might find that having it turned in a different direction works for me.
Someone doing production work on a particular piece that uses a specific
part of the tail might want that closer to the fire so they can work smarter.
I tend to work with how I learned, until I find it not working... If I find
I'm winding up with hot metal altogether too close to various important
pieces of anatomy while I'm working, then I'm probably doing it
inefficiently. That's about the time to step back and rethink what the
"best" way to do that job is. Otherwise I'm only begging to hurt myself,
and I like to delude myself into thinking I'm not THAT dumb!
