Frederick- I use a lot of abrasives, for all kinds of sanders, and I
really like Klingspor.
http://www.klingspor.com/
I have a business account with them, so I get discount prices, but
their sandpaper is very good, and if you only need a little you can get
it retail online at :
http://www.woodworkingshop.com/
They will make belts in any size for you in any of about a dozen
different types of abrasive and backing. They stock most sizes for
immediate shipment, and have warehouses on both coasts. German company,
but much of their product is made in america- depends on what you get.
I find that I really like their alumina zirconia abrasive- CS411- the
stuff is hard enough to cut well, and last a long time. I am not a
knifemaker, so I dont work much with tool steels, but we do a lot of
stainless with this type, and it works really well. They also sell
silicon carbide, which is very hard stuff, so that might be worth
trying too.
