I think the root of this whole mess is that the package wasn't delivered
to the door. You went to the PO, and at that point they want to make
sure that you are the intended recipient.

What they're confused about is the use of the address as an identifier.
The mail is YOURS by the addressee name alone. Any ID that shows
you're the addressee SHOULD suffice. The address has nothing to do with
identification.

Tell them to get their asses in gear and deliver the package to the
door, and you'll be there to receive it...

That's the point at which you call the police, explain to the officer
that
the post office employee is unlawfully depriving you of your mail, and
that
you want a police report filed for the benefit of the Federal Marshals,
who
will be called in. You also, in front of the officer, request a
written
explanation as to WHY you were deprived of your mail, for presentation
to
the local Postmaster and hir superiors. The cop then becomes your de
facto
witness. If it's a local PO policy, you then have evidence of a
conspiracy,
which will generate all sorts of PITA paperwork for all involved, and
will
likely cause the policy to be rather abruptly changed.

What most people don't realize, is that the same bureaucracy bullshit
that
they pull on us can be turned around and cause the bereaucrat far more
difficulty than what they tried to do to you ;-)
