Made my first arc welds more than 40 years ago. I "glued" a lot of steel to
gether, certainly NOT bragging that all of it stayed "glued" under
stress. I was a farm boy, self taught, with lots of trial and error. Welded
way to much "delecate" stuff without the helmet .. just because. Now I
believe "for me", that the "worst" auto helmet is better than the best
"nod" flip helmet for that very reason.
I bought an Auto welding helmet back 4 or so years ago when it was a topic
on this list. With that and a new ac/ dc welder, my welds look "prettier"
and hopefully stronger. Have not used my "good" even once since getting the
auto helmet.
