Subject: [TheForge] which Stainless rod for welding cast iron?
Good morning,
I do a lot of bench vise repair and I use a lot of 55% Nickel rods which
works well, but this morning I need to repair a ring that sits under the
base of a Chinese bench vise and receives the two tighteners that hold the
swiveling vise to the base. I'm very low on the 55% NI rods and want to try
it with the stainless rods but can't remember which stainless rods I need to
weld cast iron. I had it on my hard drive probably a half dozen places but
a recent crash dumped all of MY stuff. My wife explained why but we
couldn't afford to back up my stuff, but it was over my head.
Also, can anyone recommend a reasonable place on the net to buy the 55 and
99% Nickel rods. I saw a site recently but they wanted almost $20 for four
(4) rods. I bought a lot of them when Home Depot and Lowes had em, but
they've quit carrying em.
Thanks again, Jeff Valentine
