[TheForge] Welding advice needed pronto

Bill, We'll let it go this time....... :-)

What I've seemed to see in stainless MIG process has been using a little
bit of CO2 seems to add some bite to the wire and not allow as much spatter
to bounce out of the puddle as the straight argon seems to do to me.

With TIG I use straight argon all the time with great results, but on
Mig I find it a bit different. With the CO2 you get more penetration so the
bead is lower - but I get a lot of distortion. Does straight argon allow
more of a layover bead at lower temps and less distortion? This is a good
question I don't know the answer to, if you've got any input I'd like to
hear it before trial and error time starts in the shop.

I noticed on copper alloys like bronze and brass, you have to use the
mix as the beads of metal wire will bounce right off the part - especially
if it's got some heft/mass to it.

Ralph
