Ralph,

If you can see it well enough to make it, you can draw it as well.  The
trouble is probably your expectations.  

Remember, your not making a drawing to sell, just sketching enough to plan
your geometry.  As such, erasures, over lines and crappy line work are all
acceptable.  Those will go away with practice.  But just like it is with
smithing - even though you can see it, you still have to practice to make
reality conform to your vision.
