If you're talking about hand engraving, I'd recommend you gratly 
foreshorten the prose.

As for etching, you can do so in reasonable thickness, but for the 
application in question, I'd saw 8 ga. would be my minimum.  1/4 would 
be nicer.

You've reminded me that I have yet to make Jack's grave marker.  I plan 
on doing wrought iron, which should last nicely in the mist of the 
Oregon coast.  Crap... now you have me thinking about Jack.
