Jon, given the probable mass of an anvil with a 1/2" hardy, you are 
probably better off putting the tool in  a leg vice or faking up a stake 
plate for it to mount on a stump. Otherwise you have 2 more 
alternatives...one is to grind whatever hardy tool you can  lay your 
hands on to fit   or to make a conversion socket. I have 2 anvils with 
different sized hardy holes plus a platten table and I've made up some 
sets of conversion sockets  so I can transfer the same hardy tools from 
one to the next...
But, as was pointed out...forging up your own hardy tools to fit should 
be easy given the small scale..an excellent learning project....
I generally learn new stuff building my own tools where I can make my 
mistakes in private. It's not unreasonable to toss the first few into 
the "educational" pile...Pete F
