Just noticed that the feature article on the history of the Chinese Han dynasty in the Feb. 04 Natl. Geographic begins something like this: "Beneath a spreading Paulonia tree the village smithy stands. In his hands are a hammer and a chunk of red hot steel...as he strikes the metal..." etc. No wonder I let my subscription lapse... andy G.
