First off, I am nearsighted...can't read the small print on a beer can
more than 10" from my eyes. Some time ago I asked my eye doc if he could
provide me with a 'script for glasses that would focus from about 2 feet
to 3 feet or so to make my computer use more ergonomic. Up to that point
I would get a literal pain in the neck from craning my head back to see
the screen. If you wear bifocals you probably had the same experience as
I did the first time you tossed on a welding hood and flipped it
down...everything is out of focus and your bifocal trained brain says
tilt your head back. All I saw was the inside of the hood. I have since
purchased a pair of single vision safety glasses in addition to the
computer glasses. I can only see clearly out to about 3.5 feet, but the
stinger is never that far away anyhow and as the hammer is usually in
hand they work nicely for forging as well. Side shields of course. The
only draw back is that unless I see someone at work close up and
remember what they are wearing I can't recognize them at a distance....
small price to pay. Locally we have a 'Vision center of Wisconsin'
provider who has an agreement with my local union, and we are able to
purchase these glasses for $80 or so (two years ago). These had the side
shields, full cushioned nose piece and hinges on the bows. I'll never go
back.
Merry Christmas to all!
