Well, there is something to be said about letting the stuff rust in the  
great outdoors.  If y'all have the opportunity to visit a ship yard, all of  their 
plate is out in the weather to specifically rust away the mill  scale.
 
The pvc pipe is a great idea especially the big culvert stuff.
