Lousy welder eh Aubry?

Kind of reminds me of what the horse trainer said about straightening out a 
problem horse. His cure, "Wet saddle blankets."

In your case, there's nothing wrong with your welding skills burning rod 
won't cure. It's just like anything; given the basic eye hand coordination 
to hold the tools properly, everything else is knowledge and practice.

I'm actually better at gas welding than arc welding on small things.  I 
would like to think it's because I only have an A/C welder, but secretly I 
know I'm just a lousy welder.

Okay, so let's assume I'm going to use the O/A torch for this repair.  What 
are the relative merits of brazing vs. gas welding with cast iron rod?  In 
use, this piece can be under quite a bit of stress.
