That's the page that Ralph tore a strip off of in a private message to me.

...but I find so many holes in their dissertation on cast
welding that it's not really funny.

May I post that message to the list, Ralph?

The power hammer in Vernon Walters' [1] shop in Lunenburg came to
Lunenburg, he once told me, as ballast. Someone saw it thrown
overboard into the tidal mud and fetched a crew from the shop. They
dragged it back and found one of the toggle arms broken (partly
missing?) and forged another. It's been in use there for a generation
or more. The forged part makes a great conversation starter with
anybody knowledgeable enough to notice it.

[1] Now several years retired. Shop was taken over by Greg Ernst, who
learned a bit of the trade, then (recently) sold the shop.
Allegedly many of the tools are going back to Greg's farm workshop
and the historic building is to become some kind of a tourist
attraction -- museum cum woodworking shop cum boutique or
    something like that.
