Well, like John said, it's up to the burglar to decide if his life is worth the stuff...or did I read tht wrong, John?

John, Clearly not as such, but said property also represents security
and welfare of the people that it serves. The thief is a threat not only
to that particular security , but also to that of subsequent victims.
So IMHO the use of deadly force is immediately justified in direct
proportion to the threat to life and the subsequent threat to survival.
( My tools are more important that my kids rusty bike.)
It is also to a lesser degree justified in that it eliminates a
continued threat to the community at large.
(If some one had previously killed the SOB that broke into my father in
laws house and beat him up, it would have ended there rather than with
an 84 year old man in the hospital.)
Just my .02.
