[TheForge] eucalyptus charcoal

The rest of the carbon of course is returned to the atmosphere in the form
of CO2 (maybe a little CO) where it can once again be taken up by the trees.
This is close to a net change of atmospheric CO2 of zero. If you make the
same iron by using coke (coal) there is an addition to the atmosphere of
additional CO2. Some of us joke a bit about this but there is a real
difference in using Biomass fuel vs. using coal mined from the earth in
which the carbon was deposited over long long time periods but is released
back to the atmosphere in a very short time period. Besides we need to save
the coal for blacksmithing.
One side effect of the use of Biomass fuel for power generation is the cord
wood for wood stoves in thoses areas goes up in market price. Of course if
you cut your own wood with your own labor this may not be a factor.
