You miss the point Bruce that Biomass fuels are considered CO2 neutral
because they consume what they generate. Versus the use of coal or oil
that taken from the ground then adds to the total "free" CO2. Trees
generate CO2 whether they are burned or decay -- same amount give or
take -- but then new growth uses this CO2 for a net sum of zero. (I
know that coal and oil used CO2 when it was being formed but that was
millions of years ago.)

Hmmm,
Cabon dioxide make the trees grow. Trees are cut down and burned,
ultimately, to carbon dioxide. So where does this excess carbon dioxide
go - tree roots?

CVRD and NUCOR Announce Pig Iron Project
<snip>
"The use of a cultivated forest to produce charcoal allows for an
environmentally friendly approach to pig iron production since the
forest will consume more carbon dioxide than will be emitted by the
mini-blast furnaces." stated Dan DiMicco, NUCOR Vice Chairman,
President and CEO.
