[TheForge] eucalyptus charcoal

Well, not totally smoke and mirrors. You gotta' give them credit for not
using coal or electric furnaces or something... At least using the
eucalyptus is relatively break-even technology.
I guess that what I'm getting at is that nothing is perfect, and at
least eucalyptus is *relatively* better than the common alternatives.
I bet it smells pretty good, too.

The mini-blast furnaces emit less carbon dioxide than the the forest
consumes, but the charcoal making process emits far more carbon dioxide
than the trees can consume. Also, it doesn't say if the furnaces are
located in the middle of their forest, nor where the cokerizing of the
wood takes place. Smoke & Mirrors.

Hmmm,
Cabon dioxide make the trees grow. Trees are cut down and burned,
ultimately,
to carbon dioxide. So where does this excess carbon dioxide go - tree
roots?

CVRD and NUCOR Announce Pig Iron Project
<snip>
"The use of a cultivated forest to produce charcoal allows for an
environmentally friendly approach to pig iron production since the
forest will consume more carbon dioxide than will be emitted by the
mini-blast furnaces." stated Dan DiMicco, NUCOR Vice Chairman,
President and CEO.
