Phlip,
That web page link showed me the first "real" Ren saddle that I have seen.
Looks like there is also a metal protective strip on the front so the lance
would be less likely to run up a rider's groin.
Most the modern Ren Faire saddles that I have seen are simply gold spray
painted cow boy saddles. Seeing the jousting show is always a treat... two
huge horses running at each other with riders wearing 200 plus pounds of
armour. I have seen the EMT's called a couple of occasions, when the lance
did some real damage to one of the Knights ... the "actors". I think if I
was going to joust, I would want to build my own saddle styled after the
one on the web page that you posted.
When I made rope at last weeks' Ren Faire, I ended up selling off most all
my big lodge stakes... the 1/2 inch square by 14 inches . The fellow wants
a couple dozen more "big tent stakes". What is a fair price for these now?
From your prior posts about the SCA, it would appear that SCA "you all" try
to be more "period authentic" than most of those at Renaissance Festival
It has been a couple years since I have seen a working / demonstrating
blacksmith at a ren faire. There are some fellows that make up chain-maile,
but most of the iron stuff being sold is Pakistani / Chinese knives and
swords.
