Not enough information.  Depends upon the anvil, depends upon how hard you
hit it, depends upon where you hit it, depends on how cold it is.  I have a
cheap (what blacksmiths call a junk anvil, though it works great for what I
want) anvil.  I do get edge chips whenever I miss and hit the edge.  Haven't
seen more of them in the cold, but the number of data samples is
insufficient for a real examination<G>.

OK, so maybe it's not going to split in half, but what I wonder is, is it
more likely to develop those annoying edge chips when it's cold?
