Poison ivy actually leaves a resin on your skin that you react to.
The blisters are filled with a fluid that your body is using to fight the
irritation. The reason it spreads it that the resin is spread on skim.
If you wash up after exposure to the poison ivy with either
vinegar or bleach, that will destroy the resin from the plant. If wash up
with strong soap and water you will reduce the possibility of the
irritation, but if the soap isn't strong enough, you may spread it. I use
the bleach approach it has worked for me almost three decades now.
