Mokume makers: Once joined, are the billets forged hot per the Ian Ferguson
book? Also, how long does it typically take the billet to bond? I followed
the advice given in the Ferguson book, which specified "red" and "bright"
I'm assuming that since the bonding is taking place in the solid state, you
must not push it too close to melting points.
You have all echoed my concerns re brass. I was concerned about zinc and/or
lead which may have been components of what was possibly a strip of
architectural brass.
Also, I precleaned the sheets with simple green, rinsed them and cleaned
again with acetone.
I'm going to try thinner sheets (1/8") of copper and nickel silver next
