Hey Grant, Zinc is usually the problem, when using brass in Mokume. There is a really steep learning curve in making Mokume. Your best bet is the book " MOKUME GANE A comprehensive study" by Steve Midgett ISBN 0-9651650-7-8 Published in 2000. The metal compatibility chart is worth the price of the book by itself. Chuck
