If the brass has lead in it it is a problem
When you forge it do you only go thinner and not hit it on the edges
which causes delaminations.

It is my understanding that mokume does not forge well.  Most that I
have seen used in knife hardware and jewlery were filed or ground to
shape once the billet was welded.
