Mr. Gypsy: Hi. I have one of the hammers I think you are referring to.
Mine is double faced offset peen. These hammers have been called slash
peen, or offset peen. Mine is about four pounds, made in Sheffield, England
and is about 100 years old. The hammer has very hard faces and is used for
rapidly stretching material by alternating the placement of the opposing
peen faces on the metal. I used it for stretching long blades before I got
a power hammer. I paid $8.00 for it at a tool sale. Grant
