Sucker rod is used in wells .  It is a steel rod that is used to connect 
the surface and downhole components of a rod pumping system. They are 
usually about ten to 25 ft long

threaded at each end.   Sometimes they have square ends and bosses.   
One of the places that we had years ago had a huge corral system made 
out of siuccker rod and well casing.  It was exceptionally stout.  In 
fact there was a huge pile of sucker rod behind the barn.  Wish I had 
bothered to get it when we moved ( there is a linear accelerator station 
where it was in Waxahachie Texas)    Really wish I had pulled all of the 
levers and sheaves off of all the abandoned farm equipment we left 
behind as well.   Regarding the rebar, I always thought it was trash as 
well, since a single bar had radically different behaivior end to end, 
but as someone once told me --" That triple decker overpass over there 
is held together by it, you really think  the melt is random?"
