Sucker rod is used in wells . It is a steel rod that is used to connect
the surface and downhole components of a rod pumping system. They are
usually about ten to 25 ft long
<http://www.glossary.oilfield.slb.com/Display.cfm?Term=ft> long and
threaded at each end. Sometimes they have square ends and bosses.
One of the places that we had years ago had a huge corral system made
out of siuccker rod and well casing. It was exceptionally stout. In
fact there was a huge pile of sucker rod behind the barn. Wish I had
bothered to get it when we moved ( there is a linear accelerator station
where it was in Waxahachie Texas) Really wish I had pulled all of the
levers and sheaves off of all the abandoned farm equipment we left
behind as well. Regarding the rebar, I always thought it was trash as
well, since a single bar had radically different behaivior end to end,
but as someone once told me --" That triple decker overpass over there
is held together by it, you really think the melt is random?"
