I am going to state the obvious that the items that enhance the sound 
are poor conductors of mechanical energy at the frequencies your 
triangle rings at.  The items that don't work for you are better 
conductors that simply conduct the energy of the vibrations into the 
structure the triangle is attached to where they are quickly dissapated.
