[TheForge] "Put an end to annoying road trip songs." WAY OT

A Radio Shack ad just came up on a website I was using: "Put an end to
annoying road trip songs. Run your favorite home electronics from your
vehicle. DC-to-AC power inverter. Get it now at RadioShack."
Wow! What a sad commentary.
And here I'm reading "Lark Rise to Candleford" in which the author,
Flora Thompson, noted how (English) country folk made their own music
and sang for themselves, even while embracing the new music coming in
(1880's & 1890's). She noted the loss of some of the older songs as
older people passed away.
Nowadays we're gonna displace what culture we have left with canned
"culture." (At least in the mainstream.)
The French want to restrict importation of US media into France so that
they can maintain significant French programming. My sympathies are
with them.
Fortunately, there ARE Americans who are preserving our musical
heritage. Country Dance and Song Society (Boston) for one.
(Rant over.)
