Well, I'm about to buy a 1983 GMC school bus. It was
converted to a camper by a guy that died of Hodgkins disease
about 6 months ago and his friend "inherited" it. 63K original
miles. The body is immaculate in condition and it has a huge
rack installed on top. My plan is to load all my crap into it
and head back to NY/NJ. I'll stop in on Scottsdale to retireve
my blacksmithing equipment and other garbage and then home.
The only downside is it's a gas engine instead of diesel. 366 inch
v-8 and a 5 speed Allison. I hopeI will get 8 mpg. Is that hoping
for too much? weighs 11,500#. Even has a 5 kW generator, fridge,
stove, microwave, wood burning stove, AC in a window, elec. heater,
couch, bed space, closets... really weird getup, all home made by
the deceased. He put a lot of work into it. Lived in it for ten
years after the disease forced him to stop his dental practice.
