[TheForge] Missing message?

Hey Ray, I can still run a shaper. You know of any small ones for sale? I
could use one in my new shop.

Shaper and Planners are great tools for cast iron -- because they get below
the sand cast surface in a single cut. They use a low cost tool and produce
very good surfaces -- they are just slow. No one likes single point tools
much anymore because they are slow, and with high labor costs time is more
expensive that the high horsepower and cost of carbide milling cutters.

In 1992 I saw a lot of shapers and planners still in use in Russia for
machining of Titanium. They used them because the metal work hardens so
much that the single point tool just plan works better. Still machining a
big slab of Titanium was a labor of love. The Russians had so much Titanium
that they made shovels for the army out of it. I even brought some of them
home. (gifts from the Russians)
