I believe Roger Degner / UMBA Library  will have a demo tape / dvd on making 
bowls using a hydrolic press.   I have my UMBA / Degner  VCR tape somewhere. 

4 or 5 years ago, I saw Kieth Johnson  demonstrate making some big bowls... 
using his 50 ton hydrolic press at Bemidji ... Northern Minnesota 
Blacksmiths ...
