Common scam.  The check is a couterfeit, but a very good one.  It will 
take a few weeks to a few months for the bank to figure out.  In the 
meantime they provisionally give you the money, you send 2/3rds of it 
away, and when the bank finally takes their money back, you are out the 
cash and the merchandise.
