I have 3 cheap keyless chucks- one for my drill press, one for my
milling machine, and one for my lathe- I think I got all 3 from MSC,
for around 50 bucks each. I have never had any problems with any of
them. Now, admittedly, I am not working to the millionth of an inch.
But I do a fair amount of work with all 3, and they open and close,
hold the bits accurately, and have no damage after years of use. Real
machinists tell me you cant trust a drill bit for accurate holes
anyway- if you want it dead on true, you bore it out.
I cant see any reason not to use the 50 to 60 dollar Rohm chucks- they
are very convenient, and they will hold big bits- my problem is getting
a 1" silver and deming bit out of one after drilling thru 1/2" plate-
they grip tighter, the more they work.
