Aren't some smaller-sized arbors threaded instead of tapered?
I ask since I had a Rockwell 1/2 HP drill press that I damn near beat the
hell out of with a pickle bar before I figured it out. MT or JT, etc., can
make a big difference.
That drill press just got offloaded in favor of a 17" Rockwell variable
speed unit. I'm looking at upgrading the 1/2" chuck to at least a 5/8"
Jacobs, preferably 3/4" and tossing the 1725 rpm motor for an 1140 rpm 3
phase.
Lowest speed with the 1725 unit is 450 rpm , 275ish with the 1140 rpm unit
which is where I want to be.
I'm sick of burning up bits with too fast speeds.
