Me too.

Maine Coons have a wonderful big (dog) attitude, ours have never started
trouble (that I know of) but once started they pursue the solution
relentlessly. When I was a kid we had a Maine Coon mix who wasn't much more
than bone, muscle and gristle, very short haired and weighing a bit over 19
lbs.

Jacky (we always had to have a Jack Frost in the family and the cats usually
got elected) had a fine relationship with all the pets in the neighborhood,
dogs, cats, the nubian goats next door and the gibbon down the street.(we
did keep him away from pet birds though) It wasn't unusual at all to come
home and find him playing with the neighbor's german shepard or the other
neighbor's beagle. Most often though he could be found hunting gophers, jay
birds or lazing in the shade.

Nobody messed with him though and he didn't care who, what or how big the
offender was. When the neighbor moved in with the german shepard Mr. ? (They
didn't have kids and it was more than a few years ago. <grin>) made a point
of telling us his dog was a cat killer so we'd better keep ours inside.

I was standing there aghast and Father was just opening his mouth to reply
when Jacky jumped down off his perch in the carport and walked over to
investigate the new dog. Captain, the dog made a lunge at Jacky who took off
across the yard with the dog in hot pursuit. When Captain was running full
out and about two steps behind him Jacky did a somersault and latched
himself to Captain's face with front claws and teeth and proceeded to cat
kick Captain's throat and chest to shreads with his hind claws. When Captain
finally managed to disengage, Jacky chased him kiyiing under the new
neighbor's stationwagon and continued the bloodletting.

It was over pretty quickly though it seemed to take forever and the new
neighbor had to pay his own vet bills as animal control was easily able to
discern the entire action had taken place in our front yard. After he healed
up Captain and Jacky became much better friends than we and our new neighbor
though they were okay folks.

Our current half Maine Coon barn cat, Snicker Doodle is as affectionate an
animal as you'd like to meet but there isn't a varmint smaller than a rabbit
within a quarter mile. Snicker hasn't had to deal with a dog though, we have
a Great Pyrenees. <grin>

Love my Maine Coons.
