[TheForge] ABANA Conference work

Hey Will,
I'm not questioning the work ethic or motivation of the present or past
comped workers.
My question is why the comps are such a deep dark secret.

I'm fairly sure that there are some other talented and motivated ABANA
members who would be interested in getting a crack at the comped jobs.

A couple points on Chucks questions on comped positions at conferences:

I have worked ABANA conference sense 1984 (someday I may see one). It is
very hard work. This is no easy ride holiday.

You get to see very little of the conference, so why should you pay? You
pay your own transportation, miss half the "free" meals, are dirty for a
week, and get yelled at a lot. All you get is a T shirt and a handshake.

The goal of this program is/has been to build a core of workers so each
conference does not have to reinvent the wheel. If you are into blisters,
bone tired, and public service contact the conference chair. It is his/her
call. Like the Marines, they are always need replacements for the ones that
fell by the way.
