PeteF> Is this the same Spider Robinson who was a blues singer in the
PeteF> 60s?

Well, his bio reads (in part):

    Morgue Attendant
Central General Hospital, Plainview, N.Y., 1965

    Folksinger
assorted dives in the N.Y.-L.I. area, 1966-71

    Night Watchman
        guarding a sewer, Babylon, N.Y., 1971-72

and in an interview he said:

"Originally, this writing thing was just a sideline until I
could be what I really wanted -- the sensitive folk/blues
musician who gets all the girls," Robinson says, offering a
glimpse of himself at 22. "Then some fool invented disco, so
I needed an alternative romantic image. 'Starving writer'
was the one that worked for me."

So, yes.

And AFAIK, his rendition of _Variable Star_ from Heinlein's notes is
in progress.
