[TheForge] News letters: Was History

Bob, This is a good idea, as I did one newsletter for our club as a fill in
editor for someone who had health problems - and am now sort of the
co-editor and keep my name in the circle at the newslettereditors list to
help with the NEB newsletter.

When you get on the roster to recieve other ABANA affiliate newsletters, you
get the tips and techniques from all over the country, and articles from
lots of folks you haven't met yet. I find going to the conferences and
other affiliate meets I've been able to attend is a great experience when
you meet and see what everyone else is doing. Yes it costs money to travel,
but I enjoy the educational part seeing what others are doing. When you
work by yourself all the time - it's helpful.

Keep your eyes out for the NEB newsletter (editor: Fred Mikkelsen). He's
been turning out five publications/editions a year and they are about 20
pages full of great information. Granted half of it is our regional updates
and reports on what we've been up to at conferences and workshops, but
there's some good pictures and ideas that come along from that. He does
four quarterly editions and tries to do one strictly on "tips and
techniques" towards the end of the year.

I've been sort of a "roving reporter" for many of these workshops and local
gatherings. I find a lot of good information attending those meets and
workshops in Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Going from NH
to these places takes a little travel, but the pictures, ideas, and contacts
I make are great for articles, business, and lasting friendships. I usually
do at least one article per Fred's publication - and we have fun together on
this.

Try to find someone who attends ALL the meets with a DIGITAL CAMERA - and
you've found a friend you'd like to keep in touch with often - as it will
fill your newsletter's pages. Of course if you can attend all the meets
yourself.......all the better, but when you've got a close contact with
another person who attends most of the local activities that you don't - you
really broaden your reporting/collecting/compiling abilities. Fred covers
the bottom three states (of New England) and I take the top three. With
fuel prices these days - that's important and we catch a lot of demos,
workshops, conferences, gatherings, galleries, and showings this way. We
seem to keep a decent number of members mostly because they like the
newsletter to see what going on, or hear about it if they couldn't make it.

Another thing our club does is votes the funds to send our editor Fred to
the ABANA conferences. This is also a great resource for articles for the
newsletters.

You might try dropping Fred a line as he often swaps material with the New
York and Colorado groups for articles. His e-mail is:
