[TheForge] Hydraulic Cements etc

Bill, I use exterior grade Rockite from Fastenall. I core drill the
holes, set the posts and rail, brace in position, wedge the post with about
a 1/4 of the hole full first. This allows you to go back and check
everything and if it's ok, pull the wedges and fill the holes full. If not
the 1/2" of grout is actually something you can break, or move just a smidge
to go for the corrected pour.......... works for me, good luck.
Forgot to mention I use 1" or 1 1/4" posts (Round or Sqaure)with a 2"
cored hole. The Rockite gives about 5 minutes time - then it's set. If you
use warm water, that will cut the time. Of course cold water and cold
weather slows things a little, but nothing to write home about.
Dont' forget to duct tape your escutcheon plates up on your posts
prior to pouring (unless you have two piece covers). The grout is not the
same color match as masonry steps - so I do use a cover plate - but ya gotta
remember to put it on! :-)
And yes, I have tried finish cement or grout color in the mix to make it
tone into the color of the masonry, but it really doens't look that great to
me, so I stick with the cover plates. You might find a customer that likes
that look. A sample is a good idea .........or then your definitely going
to refine your two part cover plate making abilities.
